When you hear someone talk of energy, you perhaps feel like they’re talking in ‘fluffy’ ‘woo woo’ language. But tell me, what does energy mean to you?
Can you feel it when you walk into a room? Perhaps you’re walking into a meeting, and you can feel something is off, or maybe you’re walking in the front door at home to find your other half excited and happy, or on the other hand perhaps they’re tired and downbeat.
Whatever aspect of our lives that we think about, it’s there and ever-present. The energy emitted around us also impacts the way we feel within, too. Think of when you’ve sat in a room and felt completely calm, and at peace, and on the other hand, when you’ve felt anxious or on edge. Not that it has to be one of these two extremes however this illustrates how you feel inside depending on the energy of a room/situation.
The difference is tangible, and although you can’t see it, a bit like the air we breathe, there is no denying that it exists.
What energy are you emitting?
Have you ever taken a moment to think about the energy you’re putting out into the world? How do others feel when you walk into a room? If you aren’t aware of this, the next time you go to work or head home after a long day, notice the reactions that others have around you.
Perhaps when you get in after a long day, you’re so tired you barely speak and are feeling depleted. Then, when your other half asks what you want for dinner or your children are at your ankles wanting you to play, what is your reaction? What do you say and what do you not say?
Communication is non-verbal
So much of our communication, (I think they say about 80%) is non-verbal and likely not conscious to you however our bodies pick up on each other’s energy field without subconsciously registering that they have.
So perhaps your husband/wife is frustrated and uptight before you’ve even had a chance to ask them about their day, or your kids won’t settle down to eat their dinner without bickering with one another. It’s all connected. Others feed off your energy. I guess the question to ask yourself is, what kind of energy do I put into the world? And what type of energy would I like to emit?
We can upgrade our energy – we are in control!
If you don’t know the immediate answer to these questions, reflect for a moment. What type of people feel like sunshine to you? What attributes do they possess?
Perhaps they’re always upbeat, or maybe they reframe challenges and look at them as opportunities to grow, or they may even ask themselves what they can learn when bad news emerges. Study carefully the traits of those who have an energy that you would like to emit, and then reflect on the gap between theirs and your current state
With that in mind, consciously think about small ways you can start to improve and upgrade your energy.
Whether it’s listening to your favorite song before you head out to work for the day or taking a moment to remind yourself of the things you’re grateful for. Or perhaps it’s decompressing from the day before you head home for the evening by going for a walk, doing some exercise, or calling someone you love
Your energy is your responsibility
Whatever it is, remember that your energy is your responsibility, and it doesn’t just affect you, but it affects those around you, likely more than you know or realise.
You come home with a grumpy/tired energy, guess how those around you will react? If you go to work stressed and frustrated after your chaotic morning and get snippy with others think about the responses you will get back.
Your life will drastically improve when you upgrade the energy that you’re putting out into the world. And for those who struggle to take the first step, but know they could do something to upgrade how they feel. If you start with nothing else, start with awareness.
Watch how others show up. Watch how others interact. Watch the chain reaction of how other people’s energy impacts those around them before shifting this awareness inward to yourself.
We can’t change anything without awareness. Awareness is always the first step. What can you do to become more aware of your energy field today?
